Problem Solving Thinking Skills: Effectiveness of Problem-Solving Model in Teaching Chemistry College Students

Problem-solving is considered one of the thinking skills that must be possessed in 21st-century education because problem-solving are needed to solve all problems arise. This study aims describe as a manifestation effectiveness models college student chemistry learning. The research method uses descriptive with quantitative approach. design used One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. was conducted department Universitas Negeri Surabaya subjects 31 students who programmed basic courses on chemical thermodynamics. Measurement using paper-pen test (pretest and posttest) form an essay. findings show that: (1) Each indicator trained gets percentage, namely understanding 76.08%, planning problem solving 80.65%, implementing 85.49%, drawing conclusions 78.50%, evaluating results 68.22%; (2) N-gain scores for each obtained have medium high criteria. Based results, model has been effective improving students' skills.
